Status: Paid - Intern
The Abortion Free Cities Intern will work with the Abortion Free Cities Manager and alongside the SFLA Regional Coordinator to ensure the success of the Abortion Free Cities Campaign in his or her target city. The Campaign will consist of grassroots efforts such as door to door canvassing, rallies, speaking engagements, and other local events led by the Abortion Free Cities Intern. The intern will report to the Abortion Free Cities Manager and assist the Regional Coordinator (RC) with maintaining and improving relationships with student groups, churches, Pregnancy Help Organizations, and other local pro-life organizations in the target city. The Intern may also be asked to assist with occasional administrative tasks such as sending out newsletters and data-entry.
19 Interns will be hired in the following cities:
-Port Saint Lucie, FL
-Phoenix (Tempe), AZ
-Fairview Heights, IL (St. Louis)
-Twin Cities, MN
This is a contractual position, which will require the Intern to file a 1099 at the end of the year for tax purposes.
Essential Functions for Abortion Free Cities Intern
• Help organize local mobilization opportunities
• Attend local community events and table with resources recruiting for the campaign
• Recruit volunteers for and lead door to door canvassing with Abortion Free Cities Campaign materials to meet monthly goals
• Visit local campuses to drop off materials and/or provide trainings
• Work alongside the Regional Coordinator to close new Students for Life groups within the target city, as needed
• Build community relationships with church leaders, Pregnancy Help Organizations, and other local pro-life organizations to join the campaign
• Assist with newsletters/administrative tasks like data entry
• Research for special projects and legislation
• Engage in fundraising activities, as needed
• Other duties as assigned
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel) and online search engines. Must be teachable to learn SFLA Salesforce database. Candidates must be gritty, self- motivated, a good problem solver, have an entrepreneurial spirit, expert multi-tasker, maintain confidentiality, able to work independently, and be a highly-organized person. Candidates must have knowledge of grammar rules and utilize the oxford comma.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
This job operates out of the intern’s own home or personal office. Ideally, the one holding this position would utilize his/her own laptop.
Interns must be able to withstand long periods of driving. Other physical demands may include: setting up displays, walking around campuses, standing during display times, walking outside for long periods of time (door to door canvassing) and participating in local and national pro-life marches. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is an action-based position working 20 hours per week. Hours are flexible, but it is encouraged to work as many as possible during the team’s core hours 10AM-3PM. Occasional weekends for canvassing may be included. Workday flow/schedule should be reported to the manager of this position.
Attend local trainings and mobilization events, as they arise and as it is possible within the allotted hours.
Must be able to successfully complete an I-9. The I-9 is used for verifying the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States.
