NURSE ADVOCATE (Part Time)
- Registered Nurse, Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Family Life Services of Washtenaw County is a Christian, pro-life 501(c)3 non-profit clinic serving the greater Ypsilanti area for 37 years.

- Reports To: Nurse Manager
- Time Requirement: Regular, part-time exempt-classified, paid hourly, 25 hours each week spread over 3 days.
- Benefits: paid annual retreat day, paid vacation/sick time, limited paid professional development, no medical benefits
- On Mission: Final candidate will need to sign a statement agreeing with clinic’s Mission Statement, Statement of Faith, Handbook and all of the guiding principles of the Family Life Services ministry.
Nursing Care:
- Under the direction of the medical director and appointed staff, evaluate, report, and perform limited obstetric ultrasound examinations (certification training provided)
- Maintain an appropriate standard of care established by experts in the field, including American Institute for Ultrasound in
- Medicine AIUM and Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses AWHONN
- Provides nursing services: assessing patient needs, performing testing and making nursing judgments that reflect safe nursing practices and upholds the best medical, nursing and psychosocial care standards possible
- Provides education and holistic care for the patient to develop an understanding of their health condition, including physical, emotional, and spiritual health
- Accurately document clinical findings, observations and care-plans in patient records. Follows-through on physician’s orders and patient follow-up
- Prescribe prenatal vitamins and other medication per physician’s standing orders
- Reinforces the humanity of the unborn child with the patient and able to share the gospel with patients and pray with them as appropriate
- Helps support the Nurse Manager with any assigned administrative, compliance, or other tasks.
Professional Development:
- Maintains a professional license (or registry and OB credentials if also an RDMS), including BLS Certification and field-relevant continuing education
- Maintains a working knowledge of nursing methods, disease prevention, safety and infection control, clinical systems, supplies and equipment
- Annually demonstrates competency in performing ultrasounds, as evaluated by Medical Director and participates in recommended skills refreshers
Qualifications:
- Holds a current license in good standing with the State Nursing/Medical Board
- Has the capacity to obtain education, training, and documentation of competency to perform a limited obstetric ultrasound
- Physically able to stand for long periods, has good eyesight or corrected vision, steady hands and a good bedside manner
- Skilled with current technology and able to learn new skills quickly
- Shows respect and sensitivity for cultural differences, upholding a harassment-free and safe environment
- Exhibits strong interpersonal, spiritual, and administrative skills, takes initiative, is adaptable, dependable, and capable of committing to this position’s responsibilities and duties
- Expresses a desire to reach at-risk patients considering abortion and believes in the sanctity of all human life from the moment of conception through natural death
- Has a sincere and mature faith
