Job Purpose
Protect Life Michigan’s (PLM) High School program exists to produce students that are equipped to be effective in pro-life dialogue and outreach and to mobilize those students to expose their local community and 100% of their student body to the pro-life message.
A High School Mentor carries out the mission of PLM by working directly with pro-life high school groups and students. The High School Mentor’s purpose is to develop pro-life students into leaders in the pro-life movement through mentorship, coaching, and service. The High School Mentor will work in a designated area of the state (to be determined by the individual’s location) and, when needed, travel statewide to assist students in other regions. High School Mentors report to the High School Coordinator.
Duties and Responsibilities
Recruit: The High School Mentor will assist student leaders in creating and growing Protect Life groups across Michigan.
Examples of this include:
Regularly visit Protect Life group meetings, events, and outreaches.
Collaborate with students to help them develop and implement a recruitment strategy.
Attend pro-life community and church events.
Equip: The High School Mentor will seek to equip pro-life students to better communicate the pro-life message in a loving and persuasive way.
Examples of this include:
Conduct trainings and workshops for students.
Lead a regional pro-life leadership group for advanced students.
Collaborate with students leaders to assist them in equipping their entire group in developing apologetics and outreach skills.
Network: The High School Mentor will work to create an environment of collaboration and unity between students and the pro-life movement.
Examples of this include:
Host team-building events and activities.
Assist student groups in connecting with other groups and the local chapter of Young Professionals for Life
Actively encourage students to pursue full-time work in the pro-life movement.
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
Commitment to the pro-life movement and the mission of Protect Life Michigan.
Ability to commit to joining the team for at least one year.
A positive and passionate view of support-raising and/or fundraising.
Ability to effectively communicate in person, and in writing, including public speaking.
A positive attitude, attention to detail, and ability to organize effectively.
Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel.
Flexible work schedule, and the ability to work nights/weekends as necessary.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Applications.
Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and productively.
Must be able to pass a background check.
Experience in a high school or college pro-life group is preferred.
Salary/Benefits:
Protect Michigan is a support-raising organization. The salary and all expenses associated with this position will be fundraised by the candidate. Protect Life Michigan will provide training and coaching in order to help the candidate reach full support. We have an excellent track record of helping job candidates reach full support.
