Volunteer role description
Democrats for Life of America (DFLA) is at a critical point in its journey: this year alone, we have lost our most outspoken defender in Congress, Dan Lipinski, and our party’s nominee is threatening to impose taxpayer-funded abortion on a country that doesn’t want it. We are fighting back. This year, we plan to expand our fundraising and development activities dramatically; to launch a new candidate recruitment initiative; to support several endorsed candidates with a National Day of Action, to fight the Democratic Party establishment on its platform; to start a youth initiative; and to invite and welcome many more people of color, who are far more pro-life than white Democrats, into this movement.
We are looking for a new member of our Board of Directors to work with our board and our executive director, Kristen Day, to help guide us through this expansion. This is an unpaid position.
This will be a challenging role, requiring several hours of volunteer work a month above and beyond participating in and attending monthly remote Board meetings. We are looking for someone with an unwavering commitment to the cause of Pro-Life for the Whole Life, “from womb to tomb.” You will work with a small but brilliant team of passionate activists to supercharge DFLA. You will steer an organization at a crucial time of growth, spearhead an upswell in the Democratic Party, and help protect society’s most vulnerable, from pre-born children to those on death row. You will engage with prominent elected pro-life Democrats.
Leadership hinges on character. We seek someone with integrity, drive, and energy. The best candidate will have experience doing strategic work at a previous organization. Experience in social activism, public policy, the pro-life movement, fundraising, public relations, or Democratic Party politics is beneficial but not essential. Members of the Board of Directors have a fundraising obligation or financial commitment, which can be discussed upon request.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis with a view to conducting interviews in July and August 2020. Successful applicants will be asked to attend a one-to-one phone or video call interview with a member of our team. Following this, shortlisted candidates will be invited to a face-to-face panel interview or video call with existing directors.
