The CHOICE Center is an upcoming nonprofit pregnancy resource center dedicated to supporting individuals and families through unplanned pregnancies and beyond. Our mission is to provide compassionate care, essential resources, and comprehensive support to those facing pregnancy-related challenges. We aim to empower our clients with information, resources, and support to make informed decisions and build healthy futures.
Position Overview:
The Board Member will play a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction and ensuring the effective governance of The CHOICE Center. As a member of the Board, you will provide leadership, oversight, and support to advance our mission and enhance our impact in the community. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families.
Key Responsibilities:
Governance and Leadership
– Participate actively in board meetings, contributing to informed decision-making and strategic planning.
– Provide oversight and ensure the organization adheres to its mission, vision, and values.
– Help develop and approve organizational policies, budgets, and plans.
– Support the Executive Director and staff in achieving the organization’s goals.
Fundraising and Resource Development
– Assist in the development and implementation of fundraising strategies to secure financial resources.
– Leverage personal and professional networks to enhance the organization’s visibility and fundraising efforts.
– Participate in fundraising events and campaigns and make a personally significant annual financial contribution.
Advocacy and Outreach
– Promote the organization’s mission and programs to the community, stakeholders, and potential supporters.
– Represent the organization at community events, meetings, and other public engagements.
– Advocate for the needs and rights of individuals and families facing pregnancy-related challenges.
Board Development and Teamwork
– Collaborate with fellow board members to foster a collegial and productive board environment.
– Participate in board training and development activities to enhance governance effectiveness.
– Mentor and support new board members, ensuring a smooth transition and integration into the board.
Compliance and Accountability
– Ensure the organization operates in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
– Monitor and evaluate the organization’s performance and progress toward strategic goals.
– Maintain confidentiality and uphold the highest standards of integrity and ethical behavior.
Qualifications:
– Commitment to the mission and values of The CHOICE Center.
– Prior experience in nonprofit governance, leadership, or a related field is preferred.
– Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
– Ability to think strategically and work collaboratively.
– Willingness to actively participate in fundraising and advocacy efforts.
– Availability to attend regular board meetings and participate in committee work.
Time Commitment:
– Attend regular board meetings (typically monthly or quarterly).
– Participate in committee meetings and special events as needed.
– Estimated time commitment: 5-15 hours per month.

A strong commitment to our mission is essential. Willingness to Learn: We seek individuals who are eager to learn and grow in their role, with a willingness to participate in board training and development activities. For Experienced Board Members: Previous Board Experience Preferred: We value candidates with prior experience serving on nonprofit boards, bringing governance and leadership expertise to our team. Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Experience in strategic planning, nonprofit management, fundraising, or specific areas relevant to our mission (e.g., healthcare, social services) is highly desirable. Leadership and Mentorship: Experienced board members should be prepared to take on leadership roles within the board and mentor novice members to ensure a cohesive and effective board team.
