Family Life Services of Washtenaw County is a Christian, pro-life 501(c)3 non-profit serving the greater Ypsilanti area for more than 37 years.
Benefits: limited paid professional development, paid annual retreat day, no medical benefits, some off-site and flex time is available. On-site work is required. This role will likely be a hybrid role.
Hours: 20 hours per week (part-time)
Summary:
The Communications Manager is responsible for consistent communications, donor management and event support. This position reports to the Executive Director, working in conjunction with a small team of volunteers. Ideal candidates will be, independent, humble, self-starters who think creatively, enjoy problem-solving, welcome feedback and have a heart for ministry work. There is no interaction with patients or clients; however, this position will train as a back up receptionist and fill in for our lead receptionist as needed.
Responsibilities:
Follow the Mission Statement, Statement of Faith, Handbook and all of the guiding principles of the Family Life Services ministry.
Participate in staff meetings, as needed, sharing ideas and suggestions for the organization.
Communications:
Maintain a communications calendar including independently creating content for:
– Year-end giving campaign including scheduled print, e-mail, video and social media content- Mailing of annual donor tax receipts (with Office Administrator)- Monthly emails to church ambassadors, donors and supporters, social media posts- Create and mail quarterly print communications/annual report
Manage online fundraising campaigns using donor-centric language and professional, creative and consistent content via donor website and social media accounts
Coordinate and supervise group and individual volunteering for fundraising events, print mailings, and the baby bottle boomerang program.
Advise on client marketing efforts focusing on print advertising and social media
Donor Management:
Use donor management software to track fundraising campaign and event success metrics, including accurately entering cash and check donations.
Work with Executive Director to uphold donor appreciation best practices.
Event Planning:
With a team of volunteers, lead planning and coordination of two annual fundraising events including an in-person fundraising dinner (March) and “Walk for Life” (August).
Serve as a backup for very occasional weekend community events and visits to church supporters.
Establish compelling visual design for all fundraising events, including, slide shows, short videos, printed programs, invitations, registration sites, flyers, social media posts.
Work with Executive Director to track event success metrics and plan to meet or exceed event goals.
Qualifications/Expectations:
Excellent project-management skills, managing deadlines for several competing priorities
Christian, non-profit, small company experience preferred.
Two years professional experience in graphic design required, including identifying and communicating design standards, best practices for branding, visibility and ease of use.
Advanced proficiency with canva/microsoft publisher/or other design software required.
Working knowledge of Wix or Word Press, Facebook and Instagram preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adequate proofreading and public speaking ability.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
Strong customer service ethic, interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse personalities.
Prefer BA in Communications, Writing, Journalism, or Marketing.
Very occasional weekend hours required, optional evening hours and limited off-site work.
Able to pass a background and credit check.
After-training only: 2 days on-site each week, with hours between 10am and 5pm M-F, other hours flexible.
