Congress Finds That Abortion Industry Showed Medical Records to Third Party When Selling Baby Body Parts

Because of the Center for Medical Progress undercover videos released last summer, Congress has designated a special committee to oversee investigations into the fetal tissue and abortion industry. They have been working hard over the past several months trying to sort out what is going on behind closed doors of abortion facilities and if any illegal activity is taking place. After all, the CMP videos showed Planned Parenthood executives and abortionists casually discussing the harvesting and sale of aborted baby body parts for profits, which is illegal. The videos also showed extensive interviews with a former employee of StemExpress, the company that submits orders for the body parts and buys them.

The House Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives, which is led by Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn, an ardent pro-life supporter, found some disturbing evidence this week that Planned Parenthood and other abortion facilities illegally shared confidential medical information, which is identifiable to the patient, with StemExpress of the women coming in for abortions.  The House Committee sent a letter to the US Dept of Health & Human Services which, in part, reads:

“The Panel’s investigation has uncovered information indicating that stemExpress and Planned Parenthood Mar Monte (“PPMM”), Planned Parenthood Shasta pacific (“PPSP”), and Family Planning Specialists Medical Group (“FPS”) (hereinafter “the abortion clinics”) committed systematic violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (“HIPAA”) privacy rule from about 2010 to 2015. These violations occurred when the abortion clinics disclosed patients’ individually identifiable health information to StemExpress to facilitate the TPB’s efforts to procure human fetal tissue for resale.

Shannon Bream at Fox News has the story:

Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry’s mantra has been that they “care” about women and their health and that they want to “protect women’s rights” but this investigation has revealed quite the opposite. Again and again, they have betrayed the women that have trusted them for their care. Women are merely vessels to conceive and carry a baby until it is big enough to be aborted and its organs and body parts can be sold for profit.

How callous is that? It is beyond horrific that Planned Parenthood and their friends are violating the privacy of women and the human rights of their children just so they can make money.

This investigation is revealing that the CMP videos merely scratched the surface of what is going on behind the closed doors of the abortion industry.

David Daleiden writes about six key takeaways from this latest news, which are worth a read here. One important thing he notes is this:

Select Panel Chair Marsha Blackburn sums this all up very well: “The key to understanding the HIPAA and consent violations that we’ve referred to HHS is that there’s a business contract between StemExpress and the abortion clinics under which both sides make a profit from the baby body parts inside the young woman’s womb. The contract changes the way both entities view the young woman: her baby is now a profit-center. This betrayal of a young woman’s trust should disgust us all. It takes financial advantage, obtains consent through coercion, and deceives the woman, all in violation of federal privacy laws.”
